From Chromagnum men to musician and from grunting too classical music, rock, and rap. The first people imitated music from nature. They mimicked the sound from their every day life. It had no rhythm, beat, or tune it was just noise, but later turned into what we now call music. Ancient people used music for much more than entertainment they used it in every day life. They would yell and scream during battle, blow a horn as a warning, have ceremonies to honor the dead or bring the rain, signal danger, to show your importance in society, it was also used as a healing power. On the front lines of battle would be a soldier that would be holding a drum or a flute. When this was a common act the instruments would be spread around to different cultures after a battle. This brought on a new way of looking at music. Around the 16th century people started to collect instead of play music. A persons hands and feet were the first of all the instruments and is still the most common, because every one has them. A persons hands and feet were readily available, and easy to use. The drum is the second most common percussion instrument. Like most of the other instruments the drum was found by accident when someone hit a hallow log with a stick. The hallowed out stumps then became drums that were decorated. Drums were used for war or for signaling over long distances. The drum was a common instrument because it was so easy to use; all they had to do was strike it. The second percussion instrument was the rattle. The rattle was found later in the time when humans started to grow plants. It was found accidentally when someone picked up a dried out gourd of some sort and shook it. The ancient rattles were readily available because the people that grew the plants were just learning how to grow plant so they made many mistakes. The harp has been around since humans have started to use tools. The harp was founded during the hunt. The harp was first a bow used for killing small animals but when early humans realized that it made music it became the harp. The harp is an instrument surrounded in myths from many different cultures. The ancient harps were all shapes and sizes, from small hand held harps to large harps that were bolted to the floor. The harps would sometimes have colored strings on it to make it easier to play because it would have many strings on it. Some other ancient stringed instruments were the scrapers from the 16th century, and the picker from the 16th century. The scrapers and the pickers were all ancient forms of present-day violins, fiddles, and guitars. Most of the ancient string instruments strings were made of horsehair, hemp, or animal intestines. One of the first woodwinds was the flute. The flute was one of the first real instruments, because it was made on purpose. The ancient flute was made up of reeds tied together with animal tendons, or hemp and animal glue. The flutes were made of hallow pieces of young wood. It was a part of many cultures and their cultural events such as parades, ceremonies, and sporting events. The first wind instrument was the rams horn. It was made from the horns of rams, goats, or cattle. They were originally cups. The way it became a horn was that the person broke the end and tried to blow out the fragment so they could patch it up but when they did they realized it could be an instrument. Due to some of the words in this poem, it is understandable why this kind of reaction could be evoked. In the first line of the poem, The whiskey on your breath is descriptive enough to produce an image in ones mind of a man who is drunk. The words of Could make a small boy dizzy further illustrate the strong intoxication of the man. It is often not in good taste when an intoxicated adult presents him or herself to a child. The poem could be interpreted as a depiction of a childs experience of abuse from his father. But I hung on like death seems to convey a childs terrible feeling from having to face a drunken father. The image painted here is that of a child and his father waltzing around the house with the boy having to hold on like death. The article starts off by explaining to the reader how smokers took a financial beating at the cash register every time they went to a convenience store to buy cigarettes. In a smokers reduction movement the state of New Jersey doubled the sales tax on cigarettes forcing smokers to spend an extra forty cents on every pack they bought. Len Fishman, the state commissioner of Health and Senior services, stated that the tax increase was meant to drive down the consumption entirely. As Mr. Fishman traveled around the state he discovered that many people were already trying to quite smoking, they just never had the right physical motivation to pursue their goal. These people explained that the dramatic increase on tax was the finale straw that broke the camels back, and provided the right motivation for them to quite smoking. The tax increase put New Jersey behind only Hawaii and Alaska at $1 a pack, and Washington state at 82.5 cents a pack. Over a six month period the revenue collected from cigarette sales had dropped by 12 percent. For 1998 the revenue earned by cigarette sales should have been roughly 54.2 million cartons, but with the tax increase that number had been dropped to 47.4 million cartons. This gap represents a 6.8 million carton difference, an outstanding decrease in cigarette sales. To all smokers the tax increase means a substantial amount of money will be necessary to maintain their habits. Some smokers will go through great lengths to save as much money as possible, even if it means traveling to other states to buy their smokes. Both Pennsylvania and Delaware reported a significant increase in cigarette sales over the next six months after the tax took affect. Over a one year period Delaware even had a ten percent increase, manly due to the tax increase in New Jersey. The state of Massachusetts raised their tax 25 cents a pack in 1992 and reported a 12.5 percent decrease in sales the following year. Certainly a more alarming statistic is not necessarily how much the tax has decreased the sales of cigarettes, although very impressive and healthy, but rather the percent of under aged children and high school students who already smoke and who are beginning to smoke.

McDonald’s has the task of holding workshops to communicate on the employment experience, threats and culture of its employees and offer objectives that challenge the people’s perception about McJobs. McDonald’s has to ensure that the positions of entry level offer realistic salaries, personal development opportunities, and good working conditions to prove that the organization is consistent and ready to satisfy the needs of its employees. McDonald’s sustainability of the steps depends on the period the organization will take to provide skills and self-confidence to its employees that lasts a lifetime (Moizer Towler, 2007). McDonald’s needs to access the gap created between the internal reality and external perception of work and work towards redefining the term ‘McJob’. The company can decide to offer quality jobs, career progression opportunities, and new learning and development programs to boost its employee brand. The company is aware that it will take time before it changes the external perception, but it is willing to take the risk in the long term (Andrikopoulos Koronis, 2007). Potential Risks of Employee Branding The strategy was successful in convincing some of the members of the public and employees that McDonald’s is a suitable working area for talented employees. The problems arises because the OED dictionary failed to consider this attempts and successes of the business in creating strong image of its employees making the strategy less sustainable. This would mean that McDonald’s would have to put more efforts into the strategy leading to additional costs on the operations of the business (Price, 2011). Some observers felt that the strategy was a tactic by McDonald’s to p romote the brand and not the employee brand. They argue that McDonald’s wanted to gain free publicity. The people also said that the dictionary meaning was less relevant in the image of the company and what was important was the price and quality of products that the organization offers to customers. McDonald’s should have confidence in the product and services they provide that depict its offer of good jobs in the organization (Raj Jyothi, 2011). Conclusion and Recommendations Good image was important to attract and maintain talented employees in the workplace to create competitive advantage in McDonalds. The steps taken by the organization to redefine McJobs was very important in sustaining the long-term operations of the business. The employer branding initiatives were effective in communicating to the external audience because it changed the perception of some of the great influencers in the society like parents, teenagers, and members of the parliament. They incl uded creation of career sites, advertising campaigns, projecting opinion of employees, and promotions. The initiatives targeted on changing the perception of people on McJobs by convincing them that working at McDonalds had benefits. The company had to focus on employee satisfaction and present a good image of its employers. McDonald’s should make employee branding a lifetime strategy to ensure good image of the company in future, avoid additional costs on campaigns and promotions, and ensure attraction and maintenance of talented employees.
